Chocolate Chips Cookies - Doubletree

Chocolate Chips Cookies - Doubletree

You are going to say: another CCC post? Yes, yes & yes. We do love cookies and I'm always looking for a better one. Like millions of people we have stayed at the Doubletree Hotel. And, of course, there was freshly baked cookies to great us. The night we stayed, I was going back downstairs, making excuses to get more cookies. Of course I was asking for more cookies because I was telling them that I had to bring cookies for my three kids and my DH. In the elevator I would eat mine and then start eating just pieces on every other cookies that I got for the gang. Typical. I did a search and found this recipe on Esurientes.

After spending more than 4 hours at the rink yesterday, my feet are still frozen, I wanted to come home and bake some cookies. So I did prepare the batter the night before and it went in the fridge overnight. We came home and I did prepare dinner. My hockey son said after dinner: mom I'm still hungry? For those of you that does not have teenagers I can send you my two boys for couple of days. (plus the girlfriends, and the friends...) So, I was prepared. I told him to go back watch the hockey game and that soon he would have freshly baked Chocolate Chips Cookies. You should have seen the big smile in his face. These cookies are really good, fresh out of the oven and still warm.

On another subject I want to take the time to thank everyone that reads my blog and the brave ones that leaves a comment. You can't imagine that sometimes you are bringing a smile in the face of someone that may have had a bad day. I'm always looking forward to reading you and I'm grateful that I belong to this wonderful world for the food blogging. Thanks again.

Tortilla Soup

Tortilla Soup

We had a good supper tonight. I love making soup and tonigh we had Tortilla Soup on the menu. This soup is really spicy and next time I'll remove the seeds from the jalapeño chile.

To garnish the soup you can make your own tortilla strips or just crumbled some tortillas chips into your bowl. We added cheese in each bowl and garnished with cilantro. We ate two bowls each. It was delicious and I'll be making this soup again.

What a week. Lot's have been going on. The house is clean, the papers are signed and tomorrow the house will be listed on MLS. We hope to sell and move back East at the end of the school year. My son is graduating in June, so we will not be ready before.

In the past 20 yrs I have not stay more than five years at the same place. It's an important move because we need to find a place that we will finally call home. Hopefully we will be choosing the right location and that the kids will enjoy their new life. This has not been easy to be born and raised in a military family. Always moving, going to a new school, making new friends. My youngest son had it hard, for a year, when we moved here. Now everything is going better, he has a girlfriend, plays lot's of hockey and his life will change again soon. It's not always easy to go thru those moments in life. That's why we do have to make the right choice.

So tonight is our last night with my husband. Tomorrow he is going to fly to Africa for work. He will be back in a month. For his last night he asked for pizza and I decided to make chocolate cupcakes because he is going to miss Valentine day with us.

Those are delicious. We finish them up with a good layer of icing.

Artisan Bread

Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a Day

We are cleaning the house because next Thursday we are putting our house on the market. My husband retired for the forces, last April, and we have decided to move back East. We will be close to my daughter that lives in Ottawa. I hope that we sell fast.

In the meantime, while cleaning, I had this bread going. This is the famous Artisan Bread in Five minutes a Day by Jeff Hertzberg and Zoë François.

I prepared the dough in the afternoon and baked the bread at night to go with a beautiful Rich and Meaty Bologned Sauce by Dana McCauley.

I did follow the directions to a T. I baked the bread, as directed, and as soon as it came out of the oven I had to taste it. I could not wait. This bread is so good with fresh butter on top.

This will be my new recipe for homemade bread. I could not stop eating it. My son Maxime had to go out and said: mom don't forget to keep me some for later on.
