I'm doing the Bread Baker's Apprentice Challenge. Nicole of Pinch My Salt has invited us to join her in baking our way through Peter Reinhart’s book: The Bread Baker's Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread .
We will be backing one bread per week. The first bread wa the Anadama. I have never heard of that bread before I opened the book. It's pretty simple to make. I did halve the recipe because I only wanted one bread and did use only one tbsp of molasses instead of three. I did not want a sweet bread. The bread was really good the day I baked it with butter, maple butter & in a ham & cheese sandwich.
The next day I toasted the bread and eat it with peanut butter. Was really good. Can't wait to bake my next loaf of bread from that book. I do recommend this book to anyone who has the patience to learn to bake great bread.

I just bought the book but feared that I would go crazy if I tried to do this challenge! So I am following what the others are doing! Your bread looks perfect! And - yum - how delicious is toasted homemade bread with peanut butter?
A beautiful bread! I'd love to eat that sandwich...
Cheers,
Rosa
This bread looks gorgeous, I would love some toasted with jam!
The bread looks great, especially the sandwich. Beautiful photos!
Great looking bread. The photo with the tulips is terrific. I wish I could grab that ham and cheese sandwich off of the screen. I'm hungry.

I have the book and i tried few recipes from the book and all of them were so so good.
I would have joined up, but then i am not good in keeping up with challenges; i was in a blog they were making for nexr challenge Greek celebration bread, made that and it was a huge hit in my place.
Love your bread too.
The bread looks delicious! Sounds good with a ham and cheese sandwich!
Helene, you really captured the photos of the food so beautifuly!
Wow fabulous! The bread has turned out soft n spongy! Love it..extraordinary!
I am looking forward to bagels in a couple weeks.
Looks great and everyone I seems to enjoy the bread. Plus as you said great starter bread.
Oh wow! If I could only get a huge bite outta that sandwich! :)
Yum looks great! I want to try out some of Peter Reinhart's recipes when I have more time.
I've made a couple of Anadama recipes. They all differ with the molasses amounts. I'm not a fan of terribly molasses-y bread. Yours looks really great!
It looks great and I want a bite of that sandwich!
I am so tempted of making this bread now, I see people blog about it a lot! Yours look especially good helene!
what a perfect loaf of bread! i can almost taste it, slathered with smooth peanut butter. fantastic!
This bread is all over the blogosphere, and it always looks so good. The meat and cheese sammie would be perfect, but a little peanut butter and honey sounds nice too.
Your bread looks perfect! I can imagine how delightful it smelled while baking.
What a gorgeous loaf of bread! I bet it was just delicious toasted up!
I just want to reach inside my computer and grab that sandwich. Can't eat the bread but still...sometimes it is a little difficult being gluten-free!
There is no better smell than that of fresh baked bread. Someone should find a way to bottle that and stick a wick in it!
I'm jealous that you got into that group - I would love an excuse to bake bread once a week. I find that book a little intimidating so would have loved to have some support! Can't wait to see all the future breads from you!
Thanks for the nice comments :)
To everyone that has the book and did not get a chance to sign up you can join the fun and bake one bread a week. We started with the Anadama and we just bake them in the order they are in the book.
Hope you start baking with us.
Bread looks great. Probably awesome in the morning with tea
Bonjour Helene...I'm glad we're in this group together! I liked everything about this bread except the molasses, so I'm glad to know that using less was okay. I want to make it again, perhaps with maple syrup or honey. I thought it was a great bread to start out with because every step worked so well.
A bientot!
I'm so glad that you're baking through BBA. I can't wait to see all of the fabulous breads this group bakes. Your first one turned out fabulously. In fact, I rarely crave sandwiches, but that sandwich looks scrumptious! Plus, PB on good bread is one of my favs. What a great first "bread bake"!
Great photos.
Are we all having fun yet? Great to be baking along with you.
Susie
I love bake bread, the book sounds fabulous.

Fresh baked bread in the house every week....you are so lucky:D
I find all of you participants in the BBA chalenges, to be sooooo courageous!
Well, yeah... this is coming from one that has no blue how to bake bread and whose attempts resulted in baked stones! LOL
Very nicely done, Hélène!
Your bread looks great! I can't wait to start baking from that book--it's in the to do stack.
Your anadama loaf looks fantastic. Great job!
I had heard of Anadama Bread before and must have remembered because the name is fun though I never knew what it was. This looks good and if it tastes good with peanut butter on it there is even hope that my teenager might eat it too!
i am making this bread all week for a workshop I am catering. I love it! The Artos is yummy too. Then onto bagels...Happy Baking. Beautiful pics.
I love the new look of your site, and this bread looks great!
Helene that bread looks just perfect.
There is nothing better than having fresh baked bread every week!
It looks PERFECT! I love your photos.
Blank Helene, this bread is indeed exceptional. The translator compliments Use hopes functions well.
How interesting! I've never heard of this bread before either!
Now this is something new to me. Your sandwich looks divine. I can never seem to make mine look so appetizing.
Oh, I can see how this bread, toasted with some PB, would be heaven! The slight sweetness and the salty PB! Yumssss!!!
That sandwich looks good! Homemade bread makes great sandwiches!
I agree, the PR's Anadama is quite something! For some reason, mine turned out a lot darker than yours. Or could it be because there's no light in the kitchen? Hm. Yeah.
