My parents were very busy on the farm. They did not really go on vacation for long periods of time and they did not go out
for dinner or movies. Instead, during the winter, they would go dancing every
Saturday night. My mom decided that we would prepare our own meal that night
because she wanted a break, and also needed the time to get ready. In the
afternoon, she would decide which dress to wear, put some makeup on, and I would
help her dry her hair. She was very excited to finally have a couple hours of
free time with my dad.
For the meal I would make grilled cheeses.
My sisters and brother were anxiously waiting for me to make them. Some nights I
would make classic grilled cheese; other nights it was ham grilled cheese. Today
I made a Smoked Havarti and Pear Grilled cheese with Whole
Grain bread, and this meal brought back so many memories of the past. Grilled cheese are a comfort food and are good any time of the day.
